The weekend of April 12 through the 14th the hubby and I decided to take a much needed break.  My parents watched the kiddo's and fur-babies while he and I headed a few hours south.  We decided to book a room/cottage in one of the canyon's we like to hike in, Madera Canyon.  We were calling around and finding most the rooms booked for the weekend!  Luckily for us, the people at Madera Kubo, called us back to say they would be willing to let us stay in their recently renovated "Tree House".  They have a house they are slowly remodeling into places for people to stay.   It is unlike their normal adorable cabins, they built those from scratch themselves, as it is a property that is being remodeled.  I wasn't sure how to picture it, but having met the owners before and enjoying their feeders before decided to take the change and stay there.  My husband had reserves as it wasn't a cabin on their site and recently remodeled can mean a lot of different things.  Still off we went....

 Kids are always looking for the newest of a product!  Plus, there seems to be a daredevil streak in them now a days and they all want to do more tricks, have more control, and be the first at it all!  The best way to keep them out of trouble and get them outdoors is to give gifts that support this in a healthy way!

Madera Canyon July 7 2012 Crazy Birdventure Day 1

We started our day with a vigorous hike and then went to our favorite feeders at Santa Rita Lodge on July 7, 2012.  Awake at 4:30am to start our crazy trip we definitely needed a few minutes at the feeders before heading on.

June 16 2012 Varied Bunting Hunting

We heard the Varied Bunting was seen in Madera Canyon.  Like any good birders we set the alarms for way too early, prepped all the dog and baby items and on the morning of June 16, 2012 headed out to Madera Canyon.

 Sometimes, you just don't get your bird!  We heard about a Scarlet Tanager on a trail in Madera Canyon, AZ.  So, on June 23 we packed up the SUV and headed out.  Now, those of you on the East Coast won't be impressed because for you this is a normal bird, but on the West Coast, well we shouldn't have this bird out here.  So, with hopes of seeing all the US Tanager's in a year we went off to find our bird.

On June 3 2012, my husband and I lost our minds and got up at the crack of dawn to load the car with the kids and dogs so we could be in Madera Canyon by 8am.  It was a stressful event of exhaustion, packing the car, and waking the kids before the long drive down.  I didn't realize just how much it would cost me or how much I would gain as we finally pulled out of the driveway.

 On June 9 2012, the hubby and I got up early and walked the dogs.  Then, we headed out because we hear there was a Varied Bunting and wanted to see it.  We ran into Paul the bird expert of Boyce Thompson and he let us know where they were sighted!  We were off on out quest!

Rock this 4th with a Star Wars Party!

The 4th of July is coming up and its time to think of interesting spins on the 4th of July Parties.  I say get your geek on with a cool starwars party and then as everyone watches fire works draw out your light sabers and re-inact one of the many battle scenes with the fireworks acting as the background explosions!  You can have a table set up covered in brown trash bags with some trash bags stuffed with paper and eyes and a mouth painted on to have your Jabba the hut holding all the food and beverages!  Get the hole family involved and have them all wear a Star Wars Costume!  So, now which character do you go as?
