The hairy side of grants and tax deductions!

Sometimes I worry about our country and what we spend money on.  There are grants for so many different things and in some cases duplicate ways to get money that if you have the time, ability to read the legal gargine, and the savy to know where to look you can get money to do pretty much anything.  About 5 years ago, while living in New York, I was taking a course on finance and law aimed at understanding grants and funding as I was going for my degree in Health Service Administration.  I was shocked while doing research for a paper to find out that their was a committee which had been formed around the time of the Boston Tea Party whose job it was to test and approve tea's that came into the US. The members met once a year to test and approve teas and were appointed by members of other committees.  Basically for hundreds of years we paid people to appoint their friends to drink tea once a year and get a paycheck.  It has since been disbanded, but that hasn't stopped our drive for pointless grants.  My newest shock and awe random money grab is the Stache Act!

Taxes, Should be Considered a Discouraging Word!!!!

I just need to vent!  I have about had it with tax season!  I'm getting all the numbers together to do the taxes and each year finding what I need for the daycare taxes is insane.  You literally have to be a educated with a certificate in tax preparation to just know what numbers you even need to fill out the forms, not to mention which forms they want you to fill out this year, because their is always one that is different, added on, or no longer needed.  So, lately, in between going bald from ripping my hair out, trying to mask the twitch I've developed in my eye with crazy hats and head pieces that cover half my face, and praying I don't just break down into tears regularly I've thought about doing just that!  Maybe it's time this mom blogger, daycare owner, and pseudo-financial wiz extraordinaire fix the situation by getting a real education in preparing taxes!

Saving for the Future

I hate that I'm still paying on my education.  Whose with me?  I'm annoyed that Sallie Mae got itself into trouble over housing?  Frustrated, that due to changes I can no longer consolidate loans with them and that if I decided to go back for a different degree or finish a higher degree (I started my Masters, but decided to have babies and work at home instead) chances are I will have to pay a higher interest rate and will be paying it off for a while despite that we pay our bills on time, check to make sure the insurance paid our medical bills as they should, and own a home with equity.  I would love to be able to move the family abroad and educate them in other languages/cultures/environments, but having the loan over our head is dampening that much to my dismay.  I do not want this for my children.

Buying Big!!!!

So, how many of you know what this season is financially?  You're right it is major purchase season!  This means you are not only gearing up for taxes if you're a small business owner (home daycare) like me, but you're deciding if you're going to try for a deal on a major purchase item, like a care or for some of you a home!  This is the time of year where last years models of cars get discounted for still being on the lot, but no longer considered by consumers as new since they are last years model.  It is also the time of year where you see houses go up on the market in mass!!!  However you look at it, it's a major purchase time of year!
