Lily Pad Review

So, it's about to get personal!  I hope your ready if not avert your eyes as we are about to talk about the wonderful side effects of nursing.  As full-filling as nursing can be it can also be painful, stressful, and totally messy.  Some have it easy and have no problems at all, the rest of us don't have it so easy and we can find ourselves looking for help from products, other mom's, and what-ever-god you believe.  This is about the help I found in a review product!

Mommy Moments with Abby's review of LilyPadz: A little background on my nursing experiences, it has not been easy.  The stresses and pressure from all sides to nurse put my nerves to the breaking point at times, especially with my first child.  All my kids where born tongue tied and this can affect latching.  Depending on the severity of the tongue tie and the shape of our bodies nursing can become an issue.  They do not fix tongue tying in the hospital instead you get to wait to see a pediatric specialist.  For my first it took 3 months before it could be fixed, for my second around the same, and for my third it was almost 2 months before it could be fixed due to the wait time to see the specialist.

I found my body struggling to product since a good latch couldn't be achieved.  A baby latching and suckling is what kicks our bodies into production mode so the lack of that ability made me feel like I was failing.  As if that wasn't enough I was in pain from constantly trying.  I was bleeding and everything hurt.  No matter how much creams I put on if more than an hour went by the cream would dry up and I would end up sticking to whatever pad I was using.  The disposable one's were the worst culprits feeling like I had put one of those waxing strips on my breast over the nipple just to rip it off in a quick and painful jerk.  Yeah, not awesome again and I completely gave up on them.  The fabric one's where somewhat better, but I had to buy a ton since I was constantly going through them costing a fortune.  To add to the sticking issue from the cracking and creams I had a leaking issue that was completely frustrating.  As if my lack of full production wasn't enough when I did produce all it took was anything hitting in the right area for the pain to hit and my body to release, so I was constantly soaking my pads with nothing to go into the bottle or baby.  Not the awesomeness I had envisioned for nursing.

I had the most success with my third and the anxiety was better since I got over others pressuring me and learned that I was doing all I could to feed by the breast, but ensuring no issues of development and growth occurred by supplementing.  Part of my success with my third was the switch I made in pads due to this review.

I received the LilyPadz for review and figured why not, I've tried everything else in this category it can't be worst than the disposable ones.  I found that the LilyPadz didn't stick at all to me.  I leaked some, but not as much as I did with the fabric pads and if I leaned forward when I took them off I could save the milk and put it in a bottle for the baby!  This was important to me since production is still an issue and having the milk saved instead of wasted was a welcomed relief.

I didn't need a billion of them since I could use their cleansing foam, give it a little scrub, dry, and it is ready to go again.  Because of the cracking I washed them frequently to make sure that I didn't get any sort of an infection.  It was very comfortable and I noticed less issues with things slightly bumping me and causing pain.  It was like a small pillow was put around a sensitive area that also happened to catch some liquid gold!  I honestly can say that this is worth the money to me.  Grab a pair or two or three depending on your needs and ability to clean them, grab some of the cleansing soap and save yourself loads of laundry and sock drawers of fabric or disposable covers (aka boobies waxing strips).  Being re-usable they won't clog up the landfills either, bonus!  I only wish I had these for the first two kiddo's!  I guess that is just part of having more than one kid, with each kid you learn new tricks, find what works, and discover products that work for you!  Check this out for yourself!
