Gustafer Yellowgold's Year in the Day CD & DVD set review & giveaway
This is a wonderful set for the whole family to watch and listen to. It can be mellow and fun but still have you humming along!
The reviews on Gustafer Yellowgold's Year in the Day have been absolutely amazing! It's been said that it's a “A cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss.” - The New York Times.
Well when I read that awesome quote I knew I wanted to review this set as I loved Yellow Submarine and was trying to imagine that crossed with Dr. Seuss. How much more funky than that can you get and I like funky!
The music does not disappoint as I said it can be mellow, has great lyrics but you will still find yourself humming along. I found too that toddlers liked it even if they couldn't understand the words because of the rhythm and it's not too loud for their younger ears.
You can watch a video and hear the song Pancake smackdown from the video below.
Wasn't that a fun song?
A little bit more about Gustafer Yellowgold - Press Release tidbit Featuring top-tier guest musicians such as John Munson (Semisonic and late ‘80s cult favorite Trip Shakespeare,) Robert DiPietro (Norah Jones) and Robert Jost (Bjork, SNL, Sesame Street), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Year In The Day is the fi rst Gustafer Yellowgold DVD/CD package to feature a focused theme throughout, unfolding in graphic novel fashion and sequentially connecting eleven thought provoking, melodic soft-rock music videos in the inimitable Gustafer Yellowgold style, ranging from sublime alt-pop to gentle acoustic.More from Powered by Mom
The kids loved it and like I mentioned even the younger ones although it's recommended for 4 years of age and up. The DVD's graphic novel like set-up had the kids entranced. The burst of colors and watching the story unfold was a wonderful combination. Even my 10 year old daughter going on 16 stopped to watch :) It's so nice to have music and a dvd that I can put on for everyone without having to worry about censoring the content it's just wonderful family fun. I'm not the only one who thinks so here are some more wonderful endorsements:- “Star of Kindie Rock!” - Time Magazine
- “…The most infectious original songs. It’s like tapping into some
- pleasure center in the brain- both adult and kid…absurdly appealing. Grade: A.” - Entertainment Weekly
- “Endearing, intelligent, and slightly subversive” - Variety
