Recycled Bones!

I am always looking for ways to keep the kids busy, maybe learn a little bit in the process, and making a holiday decoration is always a bonus.  So, what do you do when you have kids with busy fingers at home?  Raid the recycle bin and make a fun friend!

Trick or Treat bag!

Each year we end up getting new Halloween buckets.  Last years end up lost, broken because they are cheap, or somehow as decorations for the house.  So, why not make your own that can be used year after year?

Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss!

I love to make boxes into something else!  So, when I get a big box the hardest part isn't, where to put it or how to break it down, but what will this become?  Many times, I find myself turning to the most creative sources I know, the kids!  They look at a box and see possibility.  Usually a few idea's instantly come pouring out of their little brains.  Then, I just have to pick which one is the best fit for our box.

Window Cling fun!

It can be hard to decorate the windows for Halloween.  So many of the decorations are more adult in theme.  The Blood splatters, creepy creatures and such can be a little much for a little one.  So, let's make some window clings that are kid friendly and fun!

Gone Batty!

One of the funnest decorations to make is a bat!  There are so many ways you can create bats.  They work anywhere, hanging off the ceiling, paintings, just propped up on something, they are very versatile.

Time to Buy Candy, Again! It can no longer be resisted the Holidays are here!

I hate buying a mass amount of candy that will sit there, just staring at me. It talks to me, telling me sweet things about how good we are together.  It wouldn't be so bad, but getting all that candy not only costs me a slight amount of sanity during the holiday season, but it costs my wallet a lot as well!  It doesn't just happen during Halloween either.  Halloween is just the start which is why we notice it so much!  After Halloween comes the candy dish out for Thanksgiving treats and stop in guests, we don't notice it, but we refill it frequently!  Then comes the Christmas parties!  The kids have parties, work has parties, and friends/family have parties that we usually end up setting or giving candy too!  Forget it if someone has a birthday!  Yeah, Halloween is just the start my friends, the candy is calling and my wallet is starting to weep!  So, this year I am at least cutting down the costs.  I got this idea from someone asking me if I knew of any Pinata mixes they could get instead of having to buy ten different bags to mix up.  Curious if my suspicions were right I check out sites that deal with Birthday Bargains by searching Birthday in a Box.  I found that by buying a few of one of these sites mixes I could avoid having to get ten bags for variety and just get a few bags of mixed choices!  This way no matter the holiday I can grab a mixed bag from my stash and fill that dish or the party favors or fill a cool paper-mache pinata you made special for the occasion.  I was also excited that a lot of these sites has free shipping if you order a certain dollar amount.  This means if I'm going to be spending $50 bucks on candy anyway for this holiday season, I can get more for my buck!  Bonus!  So, where are you getting your candy this year?  I ordered mine off line!

Masquerade Photo's

How fun is the pictures during Halloween?!!  I love all the fun things we get to make, pretend, and explore during Halloween!  This is the time of year I hear the most “take a picture of me” coming from the kids.  The dress-up bins are always out and imaginations are flying freely.  So, to help the kids have a blast and increase the fun photo’s we decided to make masquerade masks for pictures!

Hyland's Halloween! Use your costume creativity to get ready for cold season!

How much time do you put into your kids costume? How about money? We go all out for our kids imaginations so they can have a few hours of pretend and then into a box for next year or a sibling to use.  It's about time the sweat and funds we put into the cuteness or creepiness we create pay us back!  So, why not enter to win something useful?  Check out this awesome contest, for a backpack, cold season supplies, potential Gift Card, and the opportunity to show off the kiddo's and your costuming skills!

Simple way to scare all who dare enter!!!!

The kids were all antsy, it’s still too hot to play outside, but it’s October so the kids are itching for their outside time. Having a bunch of kids that need something to do with no time to create something for them to work on makes for some fast thinking! I was actually thinking anyone who enters this house right now would have to be ready for the nut house, because this kids are nuts! Then it hit me, I should have the kids make their own warning signs.

You need:

Construction paper
Contact paper
Spooky designs
Paint

Halloween Masks!

Halloween is the perfect time of year for us to explore the scary, gross, beautiful, or just plain alternative side of ourselves.  Our kids get to dress up and pretend they can conquer the world!  Why not have a masquerade party this year for the kids!  Let them dress up!  Let them eat silly foods that resemble gross things!  Let them make their own masks to wear!

Leftover Pie

Halloween has been over for a while, but the reminisce of the holiday still remains.  Left over candy plagues us sitting on a bowl on our counters each day saying eat another piece, we do but the taste can wear on our taste buds and lose their normal flare.  The pumpkin has been chopped up steamed and blended into paste which sits in our freezer waiting for us to finally do something with it so we didn’t just waste money on something that we cut a face into for one night.  Oh Halloween, why do you stay around for so long is killing my taste buds, waistline, and food storage space?

Monster Hands for Dinner!

Keeping up with our disgusting meal menu why not eat some Monster Hands?! This meal is a great way for the parents to get a good (maybe we made this before kids meal) in, made in a way kids will actually eat. An everyday meal can be made into something season specific and fun. I have found in cooking this way that kids often will eat whatever it is because it looks a specific way and is presented as something spooky even if it’s something they normally wouldn’t otherwise touch! Speaking of touching and using our hands let’s get started on making some Monster Hands to have for dinner.
